THE STRING CHEESE INCIDENT ANNOUNCES
2007 SUMMER TOUR :: TICKETS ON SALE MAY 8
THERE ARE NO PLANS FOR SCI BEYOND THESE SUMMER DATES

The String Cheese Incident
Boulder, Colorado – Independent music pioneers The String Cheese Incident announce their 2007 Summer Tour – which also marks the beginning of an end for the band and their community. In the fall of 2006, The String Cheese Incident announced it would make no plans beyond summer 2007, as SCI guitarist Billy Nershi would be leaving the group to explore a different musical path.

Since the band's inception, The String Cheese Incident has emerged as one of today's most significant independent bands. Born in 1993 in Colorado's Rocky Mountains, SCI has since released six albums, three DVDs and countless live recordings from their relentless tour schedule. Their 14 year history is packed full of surreal experiences, epic moments, groundbreaking involvement and huge accomplishments. They have been recognized for their commitment to musical creativity and integrity, for their community spirit and philanthropic endeavors, and for their innovative approach to the business of music.

When The String Cheese Incident's growth first started gaining momentum over a decade ago, the landscape of the music industry was like the wild west from where the band came. With the major-label business model failing and the age of the internet just dawning, The String Cheese Incident began to rethink the traditional rock-n-roll dream. Once the band decided to go for it and make music completely on their own terms, they never looked back.

The String Cheese Incident went on to carve out a completely different approach to the business of music; truly pioneers of a new way of "making a band." With the World Wide Web as their tool, SCI was able to easily disseminate information such as tour dates, release information, and other news to their growing fan base. Rather than doing business on such terms as "the bottom line," The String Cheese Incident opened companies, such as a ticketing and a gear company and a fan travel agency to truly cater to the audience and their needs. Their record label, SCI Fidelity Records, operated on the same ideals; they embraced tape trading and downloadable music, eventually offering the SCI's On the Road series, where every show the band played was made available for download on the internet. Whether they realized it at the time or not, The String Cheese Incident was inventing grassroots band development. Today, literally hundreds of bands are using some version of this same approach to growing a band.

The String Cheese Incident's commitment went well beyond their immediate community and even beyond the music community in general. Early on, the band took a serious interest in giving back to the communities that they visited, and they where among the first performers to encourage "Green" shows and tours. SCI's support helped give rise to such not-for-profit organizations as Conscious Alliance, Rock the Earth, and Head Count. In 2002, when the band's right to sell tickets to their own shows became threatened by ticketing giant Ticketmaster, the band stood strong for the independent music community and filed a lawsuit against the company. All the while, The String Cheese Incident stayed committed to music as a creative endeavor, not just in their recordings but also in their live performances. The list of SCI's special guests and collaborators is long and diverse. Their annual events such as Horning's Hideout and holiday shows such as New Year's and Halloween helped redefine the concert experience and garnered the band a reputation as live music vibe innovators.

Now, on the heels of five sold-out, home-state shows for their annual "Winter Carnival," the band announces their 2007 Summer Tour, which stops in markets that hold plenty of SCI history (such as the San Francisco Bay Area, New York City, and Colorado) and features some of the band's favorite kinds of shows - namely weekend camping events with plenty of musical friends in tow (a long weekend in Oregon and the "Big Summer Classic" festival at Camp Zoe).

Dates begin on July 12 with a three night run at the legendary Beacon Theatre in New York City. Then the band skips to the west coast for two nights in the Bay Area at Berkeley's Greek Theatre on July 21 and 22, with special guests Sound Tribe Sector 9 on Saturday and Railroad Earth on Sunday. The weekend of July 27-29 will include three nights in Oregon, at a venue still to be determined (visit the band's website for more information and details as they become available). Then, the "Big Summer Classic" will return in the form of a three-day camping festival on the weekend of August 3-5. In the tradition of the inaugural BSC tour in summer of 2005, the weekend festival will feature a slew of SCI's musical friends. Confirmed so far are Los Lobos, Yonder Mountain String Band, JJ Grey & MOFRO, The Wailers, EOTO and many others to be announced. Visit www.bigsummerclassic.com for more information. The tour will end at Red Rocks Amphitheatre in Colorado, where it all began.

wow...i'm surprised at the negative reaction. Over the last year SCI has toned down their tourdates, so I'm not really that surprised there aren't that many shows. I'm happy there's going to be more than just Red Rocks. Let the haters hate, I'll see the faithful at the Farewell

I told everyone that they were playing at camp zoe. and I was correct. That three night run in MO will be out of control, especialy with peak productions joining them. Camp zoe is where the highlight of this tour will be. Can't wait to see all my friends and family at good ol camp Zoe. Peace out everyone

this was expected. they did the east coast last fall and atlanta for thanksgiving. i'm a little suprised they're playing the beacon. maybe they'll add more dates, but i think the groups of shows are a pretty good idea. pick a set of shows and go to them.

on another note, i know everyone has their own musical taste, but i really don't understand how you can call yourself a fan of jam music if you don't like these guys, or at least respect what they can do. no band out there can play as many styles as well as these guys. they've got a little something for everyone and have always been very good to their fans. the musicianship is flat out amazing as well as their band chemistry, calling them weak or untalented is just showing your musical ignorance. if your not a fan that's fine, but don't say they aren't any good becuase it just isn't true. too bad billy is leaving, it was great while it lasted.

WOOOOOHOOOO! Can't wait for Hot Summer Cheese!!!..... ATTENTION ALL HATERS: please steer clear of these shows cuz you're negativity isn't wanted.--I'm stoked for the tour- all the shows will be muy bueno.

I think that anyone that likes the Cheese needs to be grateful that they're traveling around at all. The initial breakup announcement mentioned a limited amount of incidents left- so this is a positive thing. Remember, some queso is better than no queso at all.

Thanks Cheese for all the memories....see you this summer

1st off lvcheese i have to say you were right about camp zoe. (I only wish the flagstaff pine mountain amphitheater rumor i heard was true too)

2nd kaiserbun I agree 100% with you. anyone who hates on cheese just shows their musical ignorance.

3rd Its 14 dates not 11. 3 in Ny, 2 @ Berkley, 3 in oregon (maybe Hornings),3 @ camp zoe & 3 @ red rocks. Also they are trying to play @ Hornings while they are in Oregon. Hornings is working on getting their permits in order. If not they will still play in oregon @ aa location to be determined. Per sci's websights tour section.

Winter carnival was the shit! I can't wait to see them at red rocks & maybe berkley or hornings or zoe! I only wish these werent the last shows.

Considering All Good is one of the best fests going on in the country right now, I was hoping they'd be there for their last summer tour. They don't have July 15th marked, so maybe they'll end up headlining the last night and Leftover Salmon will close it out..or vice versa!

These are some kick ass dates in My opinion. I really like the idea of doing three day run's for there tour. I know for a fact I'm going to camp zoe, and Hopefully Red Rocks. I whish they would have done more cities, but watever, I mean if you like them go see one of these runs, and call it good. If you Live on the West Coast you have Oregon and Freaking RED ROCKS!! and well if you live on the East coast, Take a your thursday and friday off and go check out New York In the summer and go see cheese for one last time. I know I'm going to miss them.

"I know everyone has their own musical taste, but i really don't understand how you can call yourself a fan of jam music if you don't like these guys"

Please. This is exactly the attitude why people hate SCI fans. Unbelievable arrogance.

That being said, SCI at Zoe is a perfect fit. Zilla has played there prior and I assume Travis told the band of the potential of the place. Keller has played as well.

Point of advice... If you have to go through Rolla (highly likely for folks coming from the North) do not fall for the fake drug checkpoints. The cops set up signs for a checkpoint and then catch folks getting off the highway prior to the non-existent checkpoing (they are illegal). But for some reason, this form of entrapment is not. Rolla is bad bad bad. Be careful! Have fun!

finish the sentence your quoting buddy, its not arrogance or at least it isn't supposed to be. just stating the fact that they are talented musicians. i'm not even as much of a die hard fan as most of the people on here. there are a lot of other bands i'd say the same thing about.

they should at least do a run in each area of the country

they are already doing midwest, rockies, two runs on the west coast and one in the NE/mid Atlantic

is a atlanta/asheville/raleigh run too much to ask?

i mean really

i dont like cheese that much but it would be good to see them one more time.

OK lets set this straight. Camp Zoe is a beautiful place. Now i have never been to any of the Schwagstocks at Camp Zoe but i have been going to the Ozark area down there right where Camp zoe is since i was born. and its beautiful.

Someone was wondering if SCI had any connections as to why they would play here at camp zoe, and i can tell you that Keller Williams has played here and SCI of course is good friends with him and members from SCI had played with The Schwag here at some of the schwagstock's.

Camp Zoe should be a great place for them. Traffic could get a little crazy expecially on Highway 19's curvey roads.

Yeah Peak Experience and Madison House do their New Years, and every year it is nothing short of amazing. If you are more of a cheese head go to Camp Zoe. It's a no brainer for me. Camp Zoe is much smaller and personal than Bonnaroo, it is also going to be cheaper, and I'm sure they are going to add some more great bands to that initial line up. I just can't wait to see what Peak and Madison House have in store for all of us cheese freaks. Having this festival at Camp Zoe is going to do great things for that place.

Why is there sooo much complaining? I think everyone on the east coast is forgetting that Cheese's whole fall 06 tour was ALL on the east coast. Plus a sweet thanksgiving run in ATL.-----> Did we all forget that or what???... What's with the GREED!

And for those complaining about them not doing a run in each part of the country-look at a map
NY Run- Northeast The Roo-Southeast Berkeley-West
Oregon- Northwest Zoe- Midwest
And Red Rocks- Rocky Mountain
To me it looks like all general areas of the US are pretty much being covered. I guess the only way to satisfy all the whiners/haters is if they played in every single state.

Please Stay Positive People!

cheese is one of my favorite bands out there so its sad to see them calling it quits. i do wish they would play a few more shows on the east coast as my only chances to see them was BIG Summer Classic '05 and Roanoke VA '06 (hell of a show by the way). overall its been real and i will never forget those 2 times i was a witness to an incident. so long cheese its been fun!! and remember everyone...incidents happen.

you can think whatever you want, you can say whatever you want. It is a free country. string cheese incident might not be your thing, maybe it doesn't do it for you whether its the music, or the lyrics, or their singing voices. You can even call them a crappy band but like stated above making statements like that shows your musical ignnorance. You dont have to like them, there is such a variety of music out there but to call sci crappy means you have no idea what it takes to be a musician. EACH AND EVERY MEMBER IN THE BAND IS VERY VERY MUSICALLY TALENTED. So when you say "sci sucks, or they're crappy" it just shows how much you really know about music. Case in point. Widepread panic really doesnt do it for me because i dont care for the vocals, same with umphree's McGee but I dont think they are crappy. In fact I think both are very musically talented bands that dont do it for me. I like the bands. I just don't love them, but i respect their musical talent. thats the difference between respecting a artist and their work and being a dick!

As a long time festival go'er and a frequent flier at Camp Zoe I have to say HELL YEAH! Camp Zoe is the most beautiful festival spot I've been to in a while... get lost in the woods... rave in the cave... swim in the river... and the bonfire!!!
The connection between Zoe and SCI is simple Zoe is owned by a member of the Schwag (dead cover band) Jimmy Tebeau - Jimmy has been working a relationship with Madison House and Peak Productions for a while - he worked on the NYE gig as a crew member... several bands from Madison House have played Zoe... and Travis absolutely loves Zoe.
You will too when you get here...

So the SCI website says, "no additional dates are being planned". Does this mean there's zero chance of Allgood,or 10K Lakes? Or does it just mean there's no specific negotiations, and adding dates not at all a priority at this time-- something along those lines? Clarifying thoughts anyone?

I second that comment about All Good. Security getting pistol whipped, girls topples on shakedown selling blowjobs, Nitrous mafia EVERYWHERE, having to lie about a huge thunderstorm to shut the party down early because of all the problems. I went two years ago and would never go back. I was seriously scared for my girl to walk back to our tent from the stage area alone. Moe and the SCI suck, god i am glad i was growing up when the dead and phish still toured. I could never go to a moe show and get excited, hell the one i went to was so shitty i left. and the SCI makes me want to quit listening to jambands altogether. What a sad state live music is in if these guys (moe. SCI =) are considerd good live bands. You would have to have some really strong LSD to get me to even go to the parking lot for either one of those bands, they suck. Why else would people nee fucking hula hoops @SCI shows to keep them fucking entertained, cuz the music sucks. As for MOE, I couldnt watch them again, I would have to be strait jacketd to get me in, they were worse than SCI. I fell sorry for y' all...you do not know what goood music is!!!!

Ajohnson :: 3/19/2007 11:37 AM Hide -3
I am a musician, I have been one for a long time, and thats why I think both MOE. and SCI suck ass. I have seen both bands, and they both suck. I left the moe show both times, god I am glad I did not waste any psychedellic compounds on those lame asses. As for SCI, there are several bar bands in chicago that are better than the cheese. Fuck, neither bands bass player is as good as I am, that is sad. Both bands togehter couldnt form one good band IMO, sorry they both suck ass. Go see the Allmans, or phil, or the Mars VOlta if you want great.....but neither of these bands is even good. At least chumphrey's mcghee makes decent records.

this guy obviously is interested in nothing more than bashing bands he doesn't like, and relishes the reactions he gets from fans of said bands. sci ppl, pay no attention to this hater unless he decides to post a legitimate critique of the music rather than insisting simply that "they suck" or that they aren't "as good as" this or that other band. if you stop feeding the monkey, eventually he moves on. sorry to single you out ajohnson, but you are a good representative of a general trend on these boards that is reaching epidemic proportions. it's ajohnson's right to post whatever opinions he wants, and i don't mean to claim that he doesn't have that right or shouldn't post...my point is that this guy, as well as many others that post similar negative comments, generally don't have much more to contribute than just that: "sci sucks, they're not even as good as (fill in the blank)." as shown above, to respond to them or become reactionary and attempt to defend the band in question only invites more repetitive comments that mirror the original.

ajohnson, to your credit, i laughed out loud when i read your comments, and therein lies your true "contribution".

"When The String Cheese Incident's growth first started gaining momentum over a decade ago, the landscape of the music industry was like the wild west from where the band came. With the major-label business model failing and the age of the internet just dawning, The String Cheese Incident began to rethink the traditional rock-n-roll dream. Once the band decided to go for it and make music completely on their own terms, they never looked back."

This is why I dont need to like all of the cheez's music to respect them and what they have done. This shows the power that an artist can give themselves when they dont sit around waiting for the industry to pave the way for them.

AHH. Miss the days of 01-02 but change is the only constant. Thanks for all the good times and beautiful people I have met. There's always bluegrass festivals. For those of you who think cheese sucks your crazy. They had real magic for a short while. It shows what can happen if you blend diverse personalities into a single unit. (Magic)

Blending different personalities into a single unit...hmmm, think it's been before. Many times.

As far as a lack of reliance on "the industry", uh...I think there have been others who have done so well prior to SCI, and more succesfully, and for longer.

I take no pot shots at SCI or their music - only at those who may think that SCI "invented" the concepts mentioned above. Sounds like some of the young-uns might need to brush up on their history.
