The Avett Brothers
Merlefest fan favorites The Avett Brothers will headline the inaugural Mountain Times Appalachian Roots Revival, scheduled for Saturday, April 21, at the High Country Fairgrounds in Boone, NC.

The innovative post-punk/alt-country/indie darlings top an impressively well-rounded entertainment bill that includes Larry & Jenny Keel with Leftover Salmon's Vince Herman and Acoustic Syndicate's Steve "Big Daddy" McMurry, the everybodyfields, Wrinkle Neck Mules, Black Cash, Possum Jenkins and Lost Ridge Band.

Presented as an eclectic celebration of regionally-rooted Americana music and art, the Roots Revival will also feature an exhibition of "outsider" artists, a crafters' village, a public pickin' tent, food vendors, themed contests, a classic car expo, and information booths manned by area non-profit organizations. A portion of the event's proceeds will go to support the efforts of Boone's Habitat for Humanity ReStore facility.

Walt Reis, representative of festival promoter All Access Event Management, sees the Revival as a way of celebrating regional roots and showing how traditional mountain sounds have evolved and directly influenced what's now referred to as Americana music. He claims that "Through the course of just one day, people are going to be taken on a journey from oldtime String Band music, through straight-up Bluegrass, past traditional Country, Outlaw, Folk, progressive Bluegrass, and finally Alt-Country and Indie Rock."

Reis adds, "The day'll be full of music and fun, no lectures at all. But it'll be pretty darned obvious to just about everyone there that none of these genres could have been created without the initial input of our own Appalachian ancestors. Beyond just having a foot-stomping great time, that’s what the day is all about."

Advance tickets to the inaugural Appalachian Roots Revival are $25 ($35 at the door), and can be purchased online at

Fair enough. I wasn't trying to call out Panic fans generally...just the few who wrote above me. The only generalization I'd make about Panic fans is that they are generous when it comes to charity...well that and they can usually drink me under the table. Remember music is not a contest!!!! Unless of course we are trying to see who can collect the most non-perishable food items.

most of the core panic fanbase/ main tapers or people who matter to the communtiy are about, well too old to or mature to be commenting on a story on a band or festi they are not interested in

I Love Panic..seeing them this weekend in Asheville, I'd still hit this up, nothing beats Larry Keel his band is smoking. Some Panic Fratboys are just to close minded. You know the ones I'm talking about the guys with their pink polo shirts with the collar up out in the Panic lot. Ha. Wish I could hit this one day event since Boone is just an hour & a half away...but gotta work that weekend..

This is a killer line up. For those that have not seen them, the Avett Brothers are one of the best live acts around. Plus Larry Keel and Vince Herman! Fuck 'em if they miss out, just makes for a better crowd.

I just can't believe this is happening in my backyard. Just 15 minutes away for me.

The freakin' website says you get to carry in your beer with you AND there's a Moon Pie eating contest AND a Daisy Duke contest (not to be confused or mixed, I'm sure).

Keel is a flatpicking god. Vince Herman IS a festival all by himself. And the Avett Brothers???? I watched them nearly tear down the baby band Budweiser tent at last year's Bonnaroo. Now they're on the big stage at Coachella.

Boone and Appalachian State University have been starving for a spring blowout event for nearly 20 years. LONG LIVE APP ROOTS !!!!

BTW, I'm still getting my Panic fix in this Friday in Asheville, so I've got the best of both worlds.

I can't believe some little kid(mccalli's) called larry keel crap.......widespread panic is fucking garbage and john bell is not even compairable to Larry Keel on guitar, not close, never was and never will be. Some people really just have no clue about music. Comment on something that you might actually know about, start with how bad panic sucks and how much time and money u waste seeing them. Bitch

Mcallis1 - You're sounding like a robot...."Majority rules". Of course the majority of WSP concert goers love them so much. The ones that don't stay home. By the way, I doubt that you could whip your way out of a wet paper bag so stop threatening people. You have the most "redneck" post on this board.

So mcallis1...what you're saying is Panic is a bunch of sellouts?? I rather listen to an old Skynard CD than that monotonous southern rock bullshit.

This is a great line up, and will be a great show.
Watching the Avetts is like seeing the Who in 1967.
Larry Keel is killer, the best guitar around.
His wife, Jenny is hot!
Vince is what makes a festival worth going to.
I know me and mine will be there!
