ATHENS, GA-April 5, 2007—Verizon Wireless presents AthFest 2007 June 20-24, 2007, in historic downtown Athens, GA. This annual family-friendly music and arts festival presents over 150 bands and artists, representing the best in local, regional, and nationally recognized Athens-based talent, on two outdoor stages and in an evening "club crawl." Most outdoor events, including KidsFest, are free of charge. Wristbands for the club crawl are only $15. Since 1997, the mission of AthFest has been to educate citizens and visitors about the music and arts scene of Athens, GA, and to showcase the incredible musicians, artists, businesses and residents of the Athens community.

Southern rockers DRIVE-BY TRUCKERS, one of the most highly acclaimed bands to emerge from the Athens music scene, will close the festival on Sunday, June 24 at 7:00 p.m.

PERPETUAL GROOVE, one of the most popular experimental jam bands on the Athens scene, will headline the outdoor stages on Friday, June 22 at 9:00 p.m. Perpetual Groove recently released their third album, LIVELOVEDIE. Power pop trio, THE WHIGS, will headline on Saturday, June 23 at 9:00 p.m. Rolling Stone once called them "the best unsigned band in America" while Relix Magazine named them "the next big thing from Athens."

Each year, Ghostmeat Records releases a compilation in conjunction with AthFest. This year there will be two AthFest compilations. AthFest 2007 will be pressed onto CD and will be released on May 1, 2007. AthFest 2007 Volume Two will be released on June 19, 2007, and will only be available via digital download at I-TUNES and other digital retailers. Two of the best touring bands in one weekend in their own backyards, so count me in! BTW, what does PGroove have to do with Verizon Wireless? Isn't Verizon associated with a number of music festivals?

It was mainly aimed at the folks who think that the scene has gone mainstream. If it were any other band, this comment section would be ripped to shreds regarding bands selling out and such.
bah.........the moment has passed. I just found it amusing.

DeadStickLanding

For those of you with the club crawl wristbands, check out Dead Stick Landing, an eclectic rock trio whose sound, which revolves around hook-laden rock while incorporating progressive elements, genre-crossing, and improvisation, is influenced by 90's alternative (311, Ween, Primus, RHCP), classic rock (Jimi Hendrix, Rush, Frank Zappa, The Police, Talking Heads), and progressive jamrock (UM, phish)
