Good point, ManyRoads I was thinking the same thing. We're headed to Mountain Jam again this year and Franti & Spearhead are pretty much the main reason besides seeing the Mule. But you gotta give Michael and the band credit... I swear to God they are playing at every festival listed this summer!!!

Tickets are way pricey for a somewhat mediocre line-up. Don't get me wrong, I love Franti and Spearhead, but Keller bores me to tears. Sorry to all you K-Dub fanatics.
There will be some pretty good local talent to look out for though. I live in Asheville and have seen a bunch of these bands a number of times. Barrelhouse Mamas is a group of gorgeous women doing catchy, folksy tunes. Jen and the Juice is jazzy, funky goodness. Afromotive is in your face quality Afrobeat. It's still too expensive, though.

To deffmidget and all you other tools on other postings - You need to stop bitchin about the prices for these festivals. You think these bands work for free? You think this thing is held on free land and organized by people working for free?

If you want to see all this in one wonderful place, then this is what it costs. If you want to stick to your local scene and $6 covers in a smokey bar, then do that. For me, $95 bucks is just about the cheapest vacation I could ask for.

Get a fucking job and quit bitching about the minimal cost for a peaceful weekend with kind people and exceptional music! Peace.

whoaa...ease up. I think he brings up a valid point, this festival does not have the names to back up such a pricetag. I got my Langerado tix for 110 bucks and this lineup is dwarfed by acts such as trey, wsp, my morning jacket, sts9, biscuits, etc. And that was in Florida which is def more expensive then asheville. I mean Franti and Keller are good but they're not huge headliners by any means. I think this fest should be like $75 honestly.

If people are looking for a math-driven event that treats its attendees like cattle, creates inflated food and drink prices by demanding that vendors kick back 90% of their gross sales, and subsidizes ticket costs by selling its soul to the highest corporate bidder, they probably won't feel comfortable at AMJam.

But if folks are into fantastic music without ridiculous crowd sizes, this festival is for them. If they're into camping in a gorgeous mountain setting, in tent sites of limitless size, this festival is for them. And if they're into supporting regional environmental concerns and local sustainability projects, not because it looks cool or appeases the local cops, but because it's the right thing to do, then this festival is for them.

Web forums are always peppered with nay-sayers. But I have faith in the more positive majority of Asheville-area music lovers and Jambase readers in general. This is going to be one unbelievably good time.

Hey Now,
Asheville is nice. It can be pricey, but you can stay in a dive downtown cheap. (lock your car doors!!!) Friendly folks everywhere, cool pubs, live music. The price is for a great venue outside Asheville. So don't think your near the city. Enjoy!!

Yeah I would put a conservitive estimate at a keller - spearhead headliner at maybe $32.50... ad 15 for camping so maybe $50 tops.... if you do the math these festivals bring in sick amount of money.... the bands don't make 1/2 as much as the promoters.... i like festys that the bands organize...always seems more fun than somebody just doing it for the money... i heard the police scene is sketchy in assville?.... be careful if you have out of state tags because i know first hand that carolina is a nazi state...now if they would add BIsco I woul dsay $100 a ticket was underpriced

I've heard bad stories about Ashville cops but I always have a good time there. My last visit was for Xmas Jam and the atmosphere there was real chill. There was a police presence but they weren't busting any balls.

This fest is a little expensive, especially when the best band is Toubab. It is beautiful country for camping, though.

well, my brother got arrested at a WSP show back in 98 - we were still in high school and he was only like 16. some dick undercover saw him score some nug and busted the hell out of him. haha, its kind of funny thinking back on how it went down. i agree tho that asheville is the best place or one of em. Live in SF bay are for 7 yrs now and love it to death, but could also see moving there some sunny day...

The Deerfields is one of the best venues in the southeast. No matter how hot it gets in the summer the two mountain lakes cool you right off. One of the few places you can float around on a raft and listen to your favorite jam band play!

I think Asheville is such a chill town. I love visiting there. We were there during the Bele Chere last year and it was great. Never been to Deerfields but looking forward to it. Can't wait to see The Avett. Bros., Keller, & Toubab Krewe.
