Pearl Jam, Daft Punk, Ben Harper & The Innocent Criminals

Bands converge on nine stages in Chicago's Grant Park

Tickets are now officially on sale for Lollapalooza 2007, August 3-5 in Chicago's Grant Park. Among the 120-plus artists are behemoths Pearl Jam—in their sole U.S. show this year—as well as Daft Punk, Ben Harper & The Innocent Criminals, Muse, Iggy and the Stooges, Interpol, Kings of Leon, Modest Mouse, My Morning Jacket, Yeah Yeah Yeahs, Perry Farrell's Satellite Party, Snow Patrol, The Roots, Paolo Nutini, Femi Kuti and The Positive Force, and many more.

The 2006 edition of Lollapalooza filled Grant Park with more than 166,000 attendees of every stripe—figuratively and literally—with a healthy diet of favorites and a diverse array of new discoveries. Esquire Magazine said, "The best festival lineup of the summer? Lollapalooza, hands down." Delivering a melange of pop, indie, funk, avant-garde, garage, and solo performers, it's a show with few boundaries. A distinctive and essential element of Lollapalooza is its location: Grant Park in downtown Chicago. The show embeds itself into the fabric of the city's most vibrant public space, in the shadow of the skyline and alongside Lake Michigan, making it a part of the city—not to mention the ease of travel to and from the site, hotels, restaurants, and downtown life.

In addition to the obvious headliners, the 2007 bill is packed with meteors and indie stalwart stars like The Black Keys, Regina Spektor, Spoon, Lupe Fiasco, G. Love & Special Sauce, Clap Your Hands Say Yeah, Yo La Tengo, The Hold Steady, Jack's Mannequin, Amy Winehouse, Stephen Marley, Blonde Redhead, Sparklehorse, Sean Lennon, Son Volt, Peter Bjorn and John, Roky Erickson & the Explosions, Tapes 'n Tapes, Heartless Bastards, and more.

Pearl Jam at a huge fest in the middle of Grant Park (Eddie was born in Evanston) will be a rocking good time with a loud ass, appreciative crowd.

hate to do this, but now that the forums are gone, I need to get this info from somewhere, does anybody know what kind of bass marc friedman from the slip plays? The one I'm looking for is the white fretless one that he usually plays.
Thanks

Daft Punk, Smashing Pumpkins, Rage, Beastie Boys, Cold War Kids, Tool, White Stripes, Wu Tang Clan, Janes Addiction are all very likely to join up w/Lolla, but we'll see! I know that SP & BB will be in Baltimore but not all 3 days, so be on the look out. As well as all of the other "cool" "indie" artists, many of whom are @ the Roo will be in Chi.

Pearl Jam is fucking awesome. They STILL fucking bring in it. Just because Eddie can no longer stage dive from the lights 30 feet above doesn't mean these guys can't fucking rock. Have you heard Mike McCready play guitar live? If you have, you know what I'm talking about...

If Rage and the Pumpkins are there, damn. Holy Jesus. The apocalypse will come in all it's glory in August! whew.

knibbs, right now music industry sources are saying that it looks like the Pumpkins will not be at Lollapalooza. Also, Perry's Satellite Party will probably play, instead of Jane's. Rage is not very likely, although the Nightwatchmen is a possibility.

If you want to see 1/2 of Rage in Chicago, next week go to federal plaza on 4/14; Morello and De La Rocha are part of a rally for workers rights in the afternoon.

Smashing Pumpkins are definitely not going to be at lolla....they'll be in the Bahamas doing some other music festival....i haven't looked this up but thats what my boyfriend read somewhere so i believe him. :)

AND YES YES McCready is a guitar GOD! And PJ is rockin' it as good as always....damn they are so freakin' good....for anyone who's lost faith....download some recent live shit and see for yourself why they still sell out arena's and make people go crazy over them.

Your telling me Billy Corgan, who was once denied the opportunity to do a farewell show in Grant Park, isn't going to be invited? He is the face of Chicago rock, not Vedder (who's still the man) who took off to Seattle when it was the cool thing to do! Regardless who's there it should be nasty! I'm also feeling a Mars Volta, Flaming Lips, The Good the Bad and the Queen...

"Slow ride, take it easy!" Foghat would be cool, seriously.

Um, knibbs, Eddie moved to California from Chicago to surf and be in a band before he even thought about pearl jam or Seattle. Do some research before you post, jerk. PJ is one of the best live/touring bands out there. I hope they tour for 20 more years.

knibbs, people are pretty definite that Corgan is not going to be at Lollapalooza this year. About fifteen bands (smaller) have been leaked so far thru various sources (see the Lolla message board).

If you're in Chicago next weekend, do not miss the mini-rage against the machine reunion at federal plaza. I think this is going to be bigger than anyone realizes.

Lollapalooza cuts everybody's set short, last year all the headliners only got an hour and a half, no full shows, but still a lot of rock. I'm not the biggest Pearljam fan, but I'll still probably be working the beer tent by the mainstage. Does anybody remember buying a beer from the singing beer tent, we'll sing for tips again. Ha ha.

Whoa dude I'm not talkn' shit about PJ assface, Ten was the very first CD I ever bought (b4 then I was all about tapes) and that little poster still hangs up on my wall. I've yet to ever see them live and am looking forward to that-and another thing neither of them (billy or eddie) are true chicagoians-they're suburbanites! Look up that douchebag! (jk bout the db)

Man you guys are taking the fun out of spreading rumors! Perry's the man, satelite party was nasty @ 2005 Lolla would love to see that again. I won't be chi for that rage thing, but will be down in FL covering the Wanee fest for JB, so look out.

Cavemandan, tool is not on the prospective 2007 Lollapalooza line-up.

2005's Lollapalooza had Claypool and 2 sets of Widespread Panic, among others.

Last year's 2006 Lollapalooza had the following jambands: Disco Biscuits, Ween, Umphrey's McGee, Poi Dog Pondering, My Morning Jacket, Particle, Pepper, Matisyahu, Blues Traveler, Benvenutto-Russo Duo, and bands like Nickel Creek, Wilco, and Cold War Kids, that are kind of jammy. Plus Blues Traveler did an aftershow at HOB, and the Brain Damaged Eggmen (Bisco + UM + Ween + ?) did an allegedly rare aftershow.

So far, only about 20 of the 165 bands scheduled for Lollapalooza 2007 have been "leaked." And of the leaks, there has yet to be the a "jamband leak." But, do you really think Umphreys is going to miss a big gig like this in their own neighborhood? And, Lollapalooza has been trying to get SCI since the cancelled 2004 show. I could see one of SCI's last gigs ever being a Lollapalooza headliner this year. The $165 will be well worth it, but we'll know for sure on 4/12/07, when the mostly complete line-up is released.

I would hope that one of Cheese's last gigs would not be at Lollapalooza, even if they headlined they probably wouldn't get a show with all the big names that Lollapalooza is seemingly going to cram into that weekend. I'm not doggin on Lollapalooza at all, but I just don't think they will give Cheese the time they deserve on their last tour, SCI should do their own festival with the concentration on them for their last show. Also, I'm pretty sure Ween isn't in Brain Damaged Eggman, that band was formed at Jam Cruise 06, which Ween wasn't on, but Dean and Gene may have made an appearance, I wasn't there.

hnkscrpio, after your comments, I had to look up info about Brain Damaged Eggmen.

Brain Damaged Eggmen apparently are Bisco + UM, and they did Silver Wrapper shows in Chicago last year, either after Wicker Park Festival or Lollapalooza.

Bustle in your Hedgerow apparently is The Duo + Ween, but last year after Lollapalooza, Mr. Metzger could't make it, so Bayliss played in his place.

The two side project apparently run together, for me at least, because UM has a part in both of them.
