Lollapalooza serves up 130 bands including
Pearl Jam, Daft Punk, Ben Harper & The Innocent Criminals

and 120 more line up for Lollapalooza
Bands converge on nine stages in Chicago's Grant Park

Tickets are now officially on sale for Lollapalooza 2007, August 3-5 in Chicago's Grant Park. Among the 120-plus artists are behemoths Pearl Jam—in their sole U.S. show this year—as well as Daft Punk, Ben Harper & The Innocent Criminals, Muse, Iggy and the Stooges, Interpol, Kings of Leon, Modest Mouse, My Morning Jacket, Yeah Yeah Yeahs, Perry Farrell's Satellite Party, Snow Patrol, The Roots, Paolo Nutini, Femi Kuti and The Positive Force, and many more.

The 2006 edition of Lollapalooza filled Grant Park with more than 166,000 attendees of every stripe—figuratively and literally—with a healthy diet of favorites and a diverse array of new discoveries. Esquire Magazine said, "The best festival lineup of the summer? Lollapalooza, hands down." Delivering a melange of pop, indie, funk, avant-garde, garage, and solo performers, it's a show with few boundaries. A distinctive and essential element of Lollapalooza is its location: Grant Park in downtown Chicago. The show embeds itself into the fabric of the city's most vibrant public space, in the shadow of the skyline and alongside Lake Michigan, making it a part of the city—not to mention the ease of travel to and from the site, hotels, restaurants, and downtown life.

In addition to the obvious headliners, the 2007 bill is packed with meteors and indie stalwart stars like The Black Keys, Regina Spektor, Spoon, Lupe Fiasco, G. Love & Special Sauce, Clap Your Hands Say Yeah, Yo La Tengo, The Hold Steady, Jack's Mannequin, Amy Winehouse, Stephen Marley, Blonde Redhead, Sparklehorse, Sean Lennon, Son Volt, Peter Bjorn and John, Roky Erickson & the Explosions, Tapes 'n Tapes, Heartless Bastards, and more.

knibbs, right now music industry sources are saying that it looks like the Pumpkins will not be at Lollapalooza. Also, Perry's Satellite Party will probably play, instead of Jane's. Rage is not very likely, although the Nightwatchmen is a possibility.

If you want to see 1/2 of Rage in Chicago, next week go to federal plaza on 4/14; Morello and De La Rocha are part of a rally for workers rights in the afternoon.

Your telling me Billy Corgan, who was once denied the opportunity to do a farewell show in Grant Park, isn't going to be invited? He is the face of Chicago rock, not Vedder (who's still the man) who took off to Seattle when it was the cool thing to do! Regardless who's there it should be nasty! I'm also feeling a Mars Volta, Flaming Lips, The Good the Bad and the Queen...

"Slow ride, take it easy!" Foghat would be cool, seriously.

Um, knibbs, Eddie moved to California from Chicago to surf and be in a band before he even thought about pearl jam or Seattle. Do some research before you post, jerk. PJ is one of the best live/touring bands out there. I hope they tour for 20 more years.

knibbs, people are pretty definite that Corgan is not going to be at Lollapalooza this year. About fifteen bands (smaller) have been leaked so far thru various sources (see the Lolla message board).

If you're in Chicago next weekend, do not miss the mini-rage against the machine reunion at federal plaza. I think this is going to be bigger than anyone realizes.

Lollapalooza cuts everybody's set short, last year all the headliners only got an hour and a half, no full shows, but still a lot of rock. Cavemandan, tool is not on the prospective 2007 Lollapalooza line-up.

2005's Lollapalooza had Claypool and 2 sets of Widespread Panic, among others.

Last year's 2006 Lollapalooza had the following jambands: Disco Biscuits, Ween, Umphrey's McGee, Poi Dog Pondering, My Morning Jacket, Particle, Pepper, Matisyahu, Blues Traveler, Benvenutto-Russo Duo, and bands like Nickel Creek, Wilco, and Cold War Kids, that are kind of jammy. Plus Blues Traveler did an aftershow at HOB, and the Brain Damaged Eggmen (Bisco + UM + Ween + ?) did an allegedly rare aftershow.

So far, only about 20 of the 165 bands scheduled for Lollapalooza 2007 have been "leaked." And of the leaks, there has yet to be the a "jamband leak." But, do you really think Umphreys is going to miss a big gig like this in their own neighborhood? And, Lollapalooza has been trying to get SCI since the cancelled 2004 show. I could see one of SCI's last gigs ever being a Lollapalooza headliner this year. The $165 will be well worth it, but we'll know for sure on 4/12/07, when the mostly complete line-up is released.

I would hope that one of Cheese's last gigs would not be at Lollapalooza, even if they headlined they probably wouldn't get a show with all the big names that Lollapalooza is seemingly going to cram into that weekend. I'm not doggin on Lollapalooza at all, but I just don't think they will give Cheese the time they deserve on their last tour, SCI should do their own festival with the concentration on them for their last show. Also, I'm pretty sure Ween isn't in Brain Damaged Eggman, that band was formed at Jam Cruise 06, which Ween wasn't on, but Dean and Gene may have made an appearance, I wasn't there.

hnkscrpio, after your comments, I had to look up info about Brain Damaged Eggmen.

Brain Damaged Eggmen apparently are Bisco + UM, and they did Silver Wrapper shows in Chicago last year, either after Wicker Park Festival or Lollapalooza.

Bustle in your Hedgerow apparently is The Duo + Ween, but last year after Lollapalooza, Mr. Metzger could't make it, so Bayliss played in his place.

The two side project apparently run together, for me at least, because UM has a part in both of them.

nanatod, thanks for the info: not to be a pain in the ass, but I don't think you would want to call Bustle "Duo+Ween," as Gene and Dean Ween are not part of it (not that the rest of Ween is not important to their sound). I say this only to clarify to readers in case they got fired up thinking that they were going to see more of Ween than one band member. For those of you Ween fans, they are expected to release more gig dates any day now for shows prior to 'Roo. I hear Bustle does a great job- anyone seen them yet?

This is a 30ish hipster's wet dream. If you haven't heard of these bands its cuz you're not an indie rocker. Hardly any hip hop, pop, emo, or jam. Guess the organizers figure more mature, oldish white folk will be easier to handle and have more money to spend on shwag and expensive beer. No complaints here though, there's already enough jam fests, and Bonnaroo is Bonnaroo. Lolla is SXSW in Chicago. Just hopin now the White Stripes will be added ...

milesgone - i can tell you from last years experience that the jam bands that did play lolla recieved a good amount of attention. Umphreys played the main stage during the day, and i would say it was 1/2 or more full (obviously their chitown connection was one of the reasons it was full). But the Biscuits and Particle both played smaller stages, that had big draws. The great thing about this festival is you go to get a well rounded music experience, not to just go see bands that have been pigeon holed with a genre.

But that's just me personally, I haven't heard about half the bands on here, so it's hard for me to say whether I'd like the music or not. But with the B-Roo lineup being what it is, Waka, All Good, Summercamp. I'll probably not go to Lolla more than the day Pearl Jam is playing.

Since they really seem to be pimpin Pearl Jam I would love to see some the sidebands that PJ members play in added to the lineup since there is no tour and the boys will be well rested from playing an extra 45min with one of there side bands would be nice. Stone with Brad would be the first big key. Mike with FlightToMars or the Rockfords, Jeff where have the 3 Fish been lately and Eddie and Boom could do whatever there going to be doing at the Jack Johnson Hawaii show or Eddie could get guys from other band and just have a fun jam of covers with it.

Shtty Punk Rock and a bunch of nobodies. I'll see Perl Jam and Beasties in NYC. You notice they didn't invite one band that jams at all. Just a bunch of three chord wonders and Pretty singer songwriters .

lol deftones!.... how irony always reveals its 2 faces!....i take back that Pearl Jam and Tool blow...i change my statement to...Pearl Jam and TOOL suck!.... i think blow is too good.... 4 winds blow you safely home....blowing in the wind...blow you mind.... wheareas with suck there should be no misinterpetations....and chitown blows all the time becaus eit is the windy city... so the wind blows makes it a city that blows... what makes me laugh is how chitown thinks a deep dish bread with cheese and whatever is pizza....HA... pizza is not an open faced throw whatever you can onto dough clusterfruck.... plus the cubs suck and the city has gone downhill since Jordon stopped playing...

chicago is a great city and this is a great lineup. this is a festival that can introduce you to stuff you haven't heard before, and that's a quality all festivals should have. i'm pleased. except what the hell no flaming lips.

you must have just spent time at the O'Hare Airport then on a layover or something.
Chicago is the cleanest, most vibrant, progressive, and great cities on the earth!
i was born and raised in chi-town but now live in Baltimore. you want to see a craphole then come here.
Atlanta is NOTHING SPECIAL.

Quite a few great bands, but it doesn't come close to Bonnaroo. While I'm on the farm watching SCI, Tool, Panic, Ziggy, Ween, Galactic, STS9, Old Crow.....I'll be thinking of you city-suckers.

DAFT PUNK that's all I gotta say, I will be powering my funk-bot for massive grooving. Soulive and Tribe at the first Chi Lolla was nasty and I'm totally looking forward to it.

Last time I went to Lolla ('05) it was texas hot. "You betta PUT some water in that shit" - Craig's dad from Friday. Seriously, am pumped to see pearl jam. It will be my first time, and thus am excited for Eddie to pop my cherry. Cause there's nothin better than a swettie eddie vedder.

Cavemandan is a tool that lives in his own world. He has a personal vendetta against all music not currently playing in his land. Caveman, could you enlighten me and actually say what you actually do like rahter than what blows/sucks etc?

cavemandan Mon 4/30/2007 04:00PM
+1 Votes Thumbs down! Thumbs up!

sure keenan!...thanks for asking... lemme see... i'll start with bands i saw live...that blew me away or were worth more than admission in my opinion.... i know chitown is famous for Brents last show (globe), and Jerrys Last show (soldier)......i liked about every single dead show i was at... i think only 1 out of hundreds was lame... that was at Nassau colesium.... the shortest Terrapin ever and an early cut off time...... i really dug frank zappa live the 3 times i saw him... i regret not going more often... i think tix were like 10 or 12 bux.... acoustic hot tuna with papa john, marty balin, paul katner, jack cassidy and jorma was always worth admission price...jorma solo in a dirty nj bar until 4 am sitting 1 table away requesting songs was also a treat... dave bromberg acoustic was awesome... neil young with the international harvester band was a go go but with crazy horse was so so.... the rolling stones believe it or not really brought their game... i am ussually not one to buy into stage effects and vids and stuff, but that combined with the kick ass sound system and energy was a huge surprise to me... whereas red hot chilli peppers live seemed so dull.... little feat live was always fun and when they opened for the dead a few times that was a treat.... john cougar mellencamp live was also a surprise... pink floyd were obviously great live as was the moody blues, yes, rush, billy joel, david bowie, pat benatar, the allmans, marshall tucker, george clinton and p funk, oregon, pierre bensusan, james taylor, jerry garcia band, ratdog, phil and friends, bob dylan, whereas i though zztop and skynard live were so so...aerosmith is actually really good live as are the black crowes and edger winter band. steppenwolf, foghat, kansas, deep purple, the doobie brothers and the band.... i wasn't too into live, fuel, DSO, or spin doctors live but really liked alot of bands that are still around like the mother hips, jambay, juggling suns, the disco biscuits, sts9, moe, karl denison, greyboy allstars, n mississipi allstars, and of course phish...i also liked chic corea and claude bolling, and the who....kinda eclectic bunch....i know i missed tons of shows i saw live...but at least you get a jest... i have tons of ticket stubs i saved and tons i pitched... i should upload them online someday, so ppl can use as cd covers...lol...of course jethro tull was sweet and believe it or not so was def leppard , the scorpions, loverboy and rainbow but i thought twisted sister was lame...wheareas ted nuget kicked ass.... spryro gyro was kind and the subdudes were also....oh man your making me think about aLL THE GREAT times I had, and really making me even more confident that TOOL and Pearljam are lame... lemme see keenan, i havent really even included how great bob seager was live and I am sure lots more... oh so am i still a tool or has that title now shifted to you?...hahahaha... that answer is pretty obvious... go enjoy TOOL you TOOL....
