My Bloody Valentine to Release New Album By End of 2012

My Bloody Valentine
In an interview with NME, My Bloody Valentine frontman Kevin Shields said that the band would release their long awaited (to put it mildly) follow-up to 1991's Loveless by the end of the year on Shields' website. As if that wasn't enough, the Irish shoegaze quartet will also put out an EP of new material.

Says Shields about the new record: “I think with this record, people who like us will immediately connect with something. Based on the very, very few people who’ve heard stuff – some engineers, the band, and that’s about it – some people think it’s stranger than Loveless. I don’t. I feel like it really frees us up, and in the bigger picture it’s 100 per cent necessary.”

The band have a few dates booked for next February, including headlining slots at ATP Melbourne and Tokyo Rocks in Japan, where they will be performing this new material for the first time (via Consequence of Sound).
